From Yogi To Aspiring Dancer ~ Meet Andrea

Building a connection between like-minded individuals is something we’re passionate about at our yoga studio. “Kula” means community in the ancient and sacred language of Sanskrit. Not only do we provide locals from Hawthorn and Camberwell yoga classes, but we also provide them with a yoga studio where people can connect, share and grow. Our students come from all around the Boroondara area to sweat, play, learn and reach their health and fitness goals. Every day at Kula we come across individuals who have inspired us and continue to help shape our community; we wanted to share their stories with you.

Name: Andrea

Kula: Favourite style of yoga at Kula?

Andrea: My favourite style of yoga at Kula is Yin, followed very closely by Hot Yoga.

Kula: Why do you practice yoga?

A: I want to gain my flexibility back but add strength of which I haven’t had much of before. I used to dance and would like very much to go back to dancing in some form but I need to get my body to work again. One of my bucket list items is to do a few moves on the stage of the State Theatre at the Melbourne Art Centre…curtain definitely closed however! Also yoga is great for managing my stress.

Kula: What do you love about Kula?

A: The huge warm welcome I received when I first started and the happy, smiley faces of all the instructors.

Kula: Is yoga your main form of exercise or do you participate in other sports, fitness or activities?

A: Yoga is my main form of exercise. Sometimes I go for a walk at lunchtime at work but it depends on weather, pollen count and if I’ve remembered socks! ☺

Kula: What is the main health goal you are focusing on at the moment?

A: My main health goals at the moment are being healthy, regaining flexibility and building strength.

Kula: Apart from Kula, where are your favourite hangouts in the Hawthorn, Camberwell or Boroondara area?

A: Breakfast at Porgies & Mr Jones or Degani’s. Kiki K is also a favourite…yes…I love stationery…my secret is out! ☺

Kula: What do you love most about the Kula Tribe?

A: The wonderful opportunities to undertake workshops with amazing instructors and also the retreats throughout the year. I hope to go on my first retreat this coming new year.
