WorkHealth Grants for Staff Wellness Programs
Who wants money to put towards a corporate yoga program for your company? Is your hand up?
Did you know that you could secure a $5,000 or $10,000 grant for your business to put towards employee health and wellbeing?
Yep – you heard right… 5,000 or 10,000 big ones.  And you can choose any provider you like to spend your grant with (… pick Kula, pick Kula!).
The amount secured depends on the size of your company.  Medium sized Victorian businesses, with $2-$10 million in remuneration each year, will receive the $5,000 grant offer.  For large Victorian businesses with over $10 million in remuneration they will receive $10,000 to put towards employee wellness.
Sound too good to be true?  You’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear many companies are climbing on board and reaping the benefits.  The government initiative WorkHealth launched the grants program to ‘assist medium to large businesses to continue to support the health of their workers following WorkHealth checks.’
The WorkHealth website explains what an organisation must have to be eligible for a grant:

  • Had 60% or more of your workers participate in a WorkHealth check through the WorkHealth program
  • $2 million or more remuneration, in Victoria
  • 30 or more workers based in Victoria

If the company your work for meets the criteria you will receive an invitation to participate in the WorkHealth grants program.
You have more than 30 workers based in Victoria – tick!  You have over $2 million in remuneration – tick! But what is a WorkHealth check?
WorkHealth checks are ‘free convenient and confidential health checks in the workplace.’  They only take 15 minutes and are voluntary and confidential. Employees fill in a quick questionnaire before having their waist circumference measured as well as their blood cholesterol, pressure and glucose levels. The health professional conducting the tests then provides on the spot advice based on the results.
Two of Australia’s major health concerns – heart disease and type 2 diabetes – are addressed in the tests and participants are made aware of their risk. The checks also take into account the effect of lifestyle choices including smoking, alcohol consumption, diet and exercise.
Once over 60% of your colleagues have participated in a WorkHealth check, and you meet the other requirements listed, your organisation qualifies for the WorkHealth grants program.
When the grant process is complete you will then be able to offer a range of health and wellbeing activities to help your staff implement important lifestyle changes.  By improving the health of your staff you’re improving the strength and vitality of your organisation.
With this new wealth of knowledge get out there and make it happen.  It is definitely worth your while – you have vitality, health and bucketloads of energy waiting for you!
Stretch and smile,
Kacey
