Stress and physical tension.
In our modern-day lives, we all experience this in some way—and it accumulates in our bodies as knots, stiffness and cricks.
Release doesn’t always come easy, even when we do all the right things—stretch, rest, sauna, massages.
This is where myofascial release comes in—a powerful treatment method designed to ease pain, enhance mobility, and support overall well-being at a deep, connective level.
Here’s what you need to know about this practice and the benefits you can gain:
What Is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial release is a therapeutic technique that focuses on relieving tension and restrictions in your fascia—the thin, web-like connective tissue that surrounds and supports every muscle, bone, organ, and nerve in your body.
Think of fascia as the body’s internal fabric.
When it’s healthy, it’s flexible and glides smoothly.
But when it becomes tight or damaged—due to injury, poor posture, trauma, or stress—it can cause discomfort and restrict movement.
If you’re recovering from an injury, we recommend seeking professional advice to ensure this will complement your healing and rehabilitation.
How Do I Practice Myofascial Release?
Myofascial release works slowly, gently, and intentionally.
This treatment applies sustained pressure to specific areas of restriction, encouraging the fascia to soften, release, and return to a more fluid state.
Focus is typically placed on the upper body (shoulders, neck and thoracic spine) and lower body (lumbar spine, hips, glutes and legs).
Massage balls or tennis balls are used for self-myofascial release, and we integrate this into yoga with gentle guided movement and breath awareness for a holistic approach.
This isn’t your full-force, max-pressure Thai massage!
Start slow with minimal pressure to explore the treatment area—movements can include rolling, circling, rocking, and downward pressure for gentle release.
Stay present throughout to avoid overworking the tissues—this practice is all about listening to your body.
