Fun fact: before I became Kacey the yoga teacher/studio owner/retreat leader… I was a 20-something tour leader wrangling busloads of backpackers through Europe and beyond.
Think Oktoberfest in Germany, the Rugby World Cup in the UK, and the Football World Cup in South Africa. My job? Making sure groups of excited (and often tipsy) travellers had the time of their lives. It was chaotic, fun, and unforgettable—and looking back, it planted a seed for what I do now: leading retreats around the world (just with slightly less beer).
Over the years, I’ve visited over 50 countries. I’ve travelled solo, with friends, with my husband, and now, with our two kids. From roughing it with a brick-sized Lonely Planet guide in my backpack to relaxing in air-conditioned resorts, I’ve done it all.
But the real magic of travel? It connects you to people, cultures, and moments in a way nothing else can. Travel is one of the world’s best teachers—it teaches you about yourself, about others, and about life.
And that’s the magic I now weave into Kula’s retreats.
Over ten years ago, our first overseas retreat involved sailing through Indonesia on a pirate ship (yes, really—that one deserves its own blog post). Since then, I’ve had the joy of leading our beautiful yoga community on retreat adventures around the world.
Because here’s the thing: retreats are transformative. It’s not just about the yoga (though your body will thank you), it’s about stepping away from your routine, switching off distractions, and giving yourself time and space to rest, reflect, and reconnect.
It’s about nourishing food, immersive nature, deep breaths, good conversation, and the joy of simply being.
And yes, I’m completely biased—but I truly believe there’s no greater gift you can give yourself than time away to reset and recharge.
I’ve seen it time and again. Retreat guests whispering to me, “I didn’t realise how much I needed this.”
So, as the year keeps marching on, have you carved out any space to travel, unwind, or explore?
If you’d like a ready-made group of like-minded souls—and a retreat leader who’s seen a lot of the world (with stories to prove it!)—I’d love to invite you to join us.
Our Japan retreat is sold out (feel free to join the waitlist), but we still have space in beautiful Bali in July/August with a room that has your name on it.
And if a whole week away isn’t in the cards right now, how about a weekend in spa country? Join me in Hepburn Springs this June for a magical winter solstice escape.
I promise not to bore you with tales of my old backpacking shenanigans (unless you ask)—but I’ll absolutely share a glass of wine and some laughs with you. What’s shared on retreat, stays on retreat.
I hope to share an adventure with you soon,
Kacey x
