Did you hear about Kula’s first-ever international retreat all the way back in 2013? Well, let’s just say… it was an adventure.
I wasn’t content with just going to Bali—oh no, I wanted to take a retreat on a boat.
So I started researching vessels big enough for us to sail from Bali to Lombok and the Gili Islands—practising yoga on deck as we went.
A group of brave, adventurous souls from our early Kula days signed up. And lucky they were brave!
Because our first night at sea? Utter chaos.
We set sail from Sanur as the sun was setting… and straight into a storm. The boat leaked. The swell threw us around. Boat fumes seeped into the lower cabins. No one could sleep.
Mattresses were hauled upstairs, and we all huddled together, wondering if we should be laughing or terrified.
And then, morning came.
I’ll never forget stepping onto the deck and seeing a perfectly still ocean—like glass.
The storm had passed, leaving behind an eerie, surreal calm. It felt like a rite of passage—as if Mother Nature had thrown us into the wild together just so we could fully appreciate the magic that followed.
And from then on? Smooth sailing on our Indonesian pirate ship! 🏴☠️
We island-hopped through Indonesia, explored hidden beaches, practised yoga on deserted shores, snorkelled with turtles, and jumped off the boat into the ocean like big kids.
It was absolute bliss, and SO much fun!
Looking back, I love how gung-ho my younger self was—skipping the “start small” approach and instead launching straight into a floating yoga retreat! 😂
And honestly? It worked, because we had the exact group that was meant to be there. The kind of people who laugh their way through chaos and turn a near-disaster into an unforgettable adventure.
Would I do another sailing retreat? Maybe… but for now, I’m very happy to have my feet on solid ground for our next round of retreats.
And yes, we’re heading back to Bali this July… and you’re invited.
Maybe you’ve never been. Maybe you don’t think Bali is for you. I get it—I avoided Bali for years too.
Which is exactly why I take my groups far from the hustle, to a peaceful, beachfront yoga retreat venue between Sanur and Candidasa.
It’ll be our third time at this incredible location, and for good reason—people keep coming back!
In fact, at least four of my 2024 retreaters are already signed up again.
✨ Two pools, three yoga shalas, and two incredible restaurants (last year’s group basically turned it into a food retreat because the meals were that good!).
✨ Accommodation options to suit different budgets, making it more accessible for our Kula community.
✨ Direct flights from Melbourne, so it’s super easy to get there.
Come solo, bring a friend, bring your partner—you’ll fit right in.
Whether you’re craving sunshine, deeper yoga practice, connection, or simply some time for you, this retreat might be exactly what your nervous system needs.
Want to know more? Just get in touch here and we’ll chat.
Hope you can join us in paradise,
Kacey x
P.S. Can’t get away for a full week? I get it.
