“Kula” is an ancient sanskrit term that means ‘community of the heart’. It is a group coming together of their own free will; an intentional clan, tribe or family.
Part of our Kula Tribe is connecting with the local community. Each month we engage with a different local business as a way of encouraging our members to get to know their local area. It also allows these local businesses to get to know our members.
This month our we’ve connected with BlendCo in Hawthorn for a delicious accompaniment to your practice. Here’s a little about their story:
BlendCo was founded in September 2013 with the purchase of an old smoothie van that had previously attended music festivals and other events around Victoria and NSW. Before we purchased the van, we knew we wanted to be involved in the health industry, but we really had no idea how we could do it in a unique way.
At that same point in time, our friendship group were in the midst of a ‘blend trend’ in which we would blend just about anything we had in the fruit basket and turn it into a smoothie, with the difference being, we would refer to it as a blend, and not a smoothie. Quite simply, it was an inside joke that somewhere along the line, got way out of hand. It was almost as though we had placed an embargo on the use of the word smoothie. You could say blend, or nothing at all. And it was on the back of this ridiculous idea that we found our unique entry point into the world of health.
In the end, it was basically decided for us. We would call our company BlendCo, short for the Blending Company, we would sell fruit and vegetable blends (not smoothies) and we would travel to every music festival Victoria had to offer over the 2013-2014 summer months. Which is exactly what we did.
K: What’s your no 1 wellness tip?
BlendCo: Juice fast at least twice a year for 3-6 days. Buy yourself a cold pressed juicer
as it’s far cheaper!
K: What do you love most about the boroondara/Hawthorn community?
B: Lovely family feel. Glenferrie Road traders all help each other out and the council
does a good job of bringing as much atmosphere and sense of community as possible
to the area.
K: Have you ever done yoga before?
B: Yes. In our office in Richmond, one of the team used to teach yoga on the side
and every Friday the whole office would participate in a relaxing session which
was such a fantastic way to end the week!
Our Kula Tribe members can enjoy a special discount this month, so don’t miss out. There has never been a better time to join the tribe and here’s why…
