“Kula” is an ancient sanskrit term that means ‘community of the heart’. It is a group coming together of their own free will; an intentional clan, tribe or family.
Part of our Kula Tribe is connecting with the local community. Each month we engage with a different local business as a way of encouraging our members to get to know their local area. It also allows these local businesses to get to know our members.
This month we’re excited to introduce Leigh from Beat Coffee to our Kula Tribe. Not only because we know many of our tribe love a good coffee, but because Leigh’s intention aligns so closely to the heart of the Kula community. Here’s a little of the journey that led to this Melbourne based business, Beat Coffee:
Beat Coffee was born from the idea of the endless search – do what inspires you, do it well and always keep pushing beyond. Roaster & Owner, Leigh Mellington, spent most of his career as an engineer in the beer/spirits/wine and packaging industries where he was exposed to many passionate individuals in their field of expertise – brewers, wine makers – and realised that he wanted to pursue what inspired him. beat-about-us-photo
Good fortune led Leigh to live in New York City for a year where he had the opportunity to spend time exploring the exploding specialty coffee scene as well as immersing himself in his other passion, music. It was there that he had the moment of clarity that life is too short, you have to chase your dreams.  So upon Leigh’s return to Australia there was no turning back! A small roaster was purchased and with his engineering background providing a data-driven approach along with some great training, several years were spent learning the craft.
Beat Coffee’s ethos is “to promote and fuel the endless search for whatever inspires and drives you” and it is something we practise every day.  Our coffee is the result of continuously roasting and tasting beans from as many different regions around the world as we can – and then sharing them with our customers. Beat also introduced our packaged cold brew coffee and concentrate in 2015 and have been kegging cold brew for wholesale accounts for the past two years.
If you would like to know more and get your hands on our coffee, or would just like to talk coffee give Leigh a call. We love to talk coffee, music, art or learn about what drives you!
If you would like to contact Leigh to chat about coffee or find out more about the products they offer, head to: http://beatcoffee.com.au
You can also connect via Facebook, Instagram & Twitter.
