I want to share a little something that’s been coming up in the studios lately that I find so interesting—and not often talked about.
We all do it.
You check the schedule, spot a different teacher filling in for your regular class, and think… maybe I’ll just skip today.
And I get it. We’re creatures of habit.
We fall into rhythm with the teachers who resonate with us—the ones who feel like home.
There’s comfort in knowing their style, their sequencing, even the way they cue downward dog.
But here’s a gentle reminder: sometimes shaking things up is exactly what we need.
A cover teacher might use a new cue that suddenly makes something click.
They might share a fresh perspective, a variation you haven’t tried, or a theme that lands so perfectly that you carry it with you all week.
Even more interesting? That moment of resistance.
Why am I hesitating?
Why am I judging this before I’ve even stepped in the room?
Maybe you’ve had one class with that teacher before and decided it wasn’t for you. But just like students, teachers grow.
They evolve.
Maybe that day they were nervous, finding their footing in a new space, still learning to read the room.
Or perhaps that day, it wouldn’t have mattered who was teaching—you were in your own head.
Food for thought.
Personally? I don’t check who’s teaching.
I just book the classes that work for my schedule that week and trust that I’ll receive—a stretch, a breath, a reset.
And if I feel resistance? That’s my work. That’s the real yoga. Letting go, staying open, staying curious.
Because the truth is, no matter who’s leading, it’s always a gift to get on your mat.
So next time one of your beloved teachers is away and you see a different name pop up—pause before you cancel.
