Building a connection between like-minded individuals is something we’re passionate about at our yoga studio. “Kula” means community in the ancient and sacred language of Sanskrit. Not only do we provide locals from Hawthorn and Camberwell yoga classes, but we also provide them with a yoga studio where people can connect, share and grow. Our students come from all around the Boroondara area to sweat, play, learn and reach their health and fitness goals. Every day at Kula we come across individuals who have inspired us and continue to help shape our community; we wanted to share their stories with you. Read below to learn more.
Name: Maria (Maria started at Kula as a prenatal student, continuing through after the birth of her daughter Billie to join our Yoga With Baby classes)
Kula: Favourite style of yoga at Kula?
Maria: I loved the prenatal yoga during pregnancy it really helped with stretching out my lower back and a general feel good stretch as my body was carrying little bubs! I also enjoyed yoga with baby when you need a good stretch and can’t get a babysitter. Its also a nice bonding session and time for you and just your baby to relax and not thinking about cooking or doing the washing!
K: Why do you practice yoga?
M: I find yoga not only beneficial for my body but also for my mind. Its such a fantastic way to switch off from the world and just be in the moment.
K: What do you love about Kula Yoga?
M: The staff are always so friendly and helpful. It’s also a lovely environment!
K: Is yoga your main form of exercise, or do you go to the gym, participate in other sports, fitness or activities?
M: I also enjoy Barre classes, pilates and walking with baby in the pram! Need to keep as fit as I can with a one year old!
K: What is the main health goal you are focusing on at the moment?
M: Healthy eating, cooking and getting out as much as I can in the Melbourne winter. I love recipes from ‘The healthy Chef’ easy to make and healthy!
K: Apart from Kula, where are your favourite hangouts in the Hawthorn, Camberwell or Boroondara area?
M: We love places that are pram and kid friendly so Mastic in kew, Hawthorn Common, the local play centres and parks. We love walking down the anniversary trail walk from deepdene to Camberwell.
