Building a connection between like-minded individuals is something we’re passionate about at our yoga studio. “Kula” means community in the ancient and sacred language of Sanskrit. Not only do we provide locals from Hawthorn and Camberwell yoga classes, but we also provide them with a yoga studio where people can connect, share and grow. Our students come from all around the Boroondara area to sweat, play, learn and reach their health and fitness goals. Every day at Kula we come across individuals who have inspired us and continue to help shape our community; we wanted to share their stories with you. This week  is a special edition as we spotlight one of our Kula Tribe members, who has also recently taken up the 30 Day Yoga & Nutrition Challenge.

Name: Jessica (Jessica is one of our long term Kula Tribers and also runs her own business in health and wellbeing, specialising in sports nutrition, organic supplementation and skincare)

Kula: Favourite style of yoga at Kula?

Jessica: I adore all styles of yoga at Kula, but I would have to say I have 2 favorites: yin, because it’s so relaxing and I feel great after the class, and hot, because I like to detox my body and like the feeling of a challenging class.

K: Why do you practice yoga?

J: Before I started at Kula, I had never tried yoga, when I met the amazing people at Kula and the styles they teach, it became my second home. Yoga to me has taught me so much about myself and has helped me become a better person. I have noticed yoga has helped me physically and mentally become the person I want to be.

K: What do you love about Kula Yoga?

J: I love everything about Kula, I love walking into the studio and feeling so relaxed. I adore the amazing teachers the most; they are always so friendly and positive. I like that Kula is about community and love the overall vibe in the studio.

K: Is yoga your main form of exercise, or do you go to the gym, participate in other sports, fitness or activities?

J: Yes, yoga is my main form of exercise now, when I first started yoga I was doing dancing but ended up stopping dancing and started doing a lot more yoga at Kula, I started doing 8 classes a week before my back injury. Recently I have just started back at yoga and I could not be happier.

K: What is the main health goal you are focusing on at the moment?

J: Running my Health and wellbeing business in skincare and nutrition, I sometimes forget about my own health so my goals for the challenge are to drink more water and eat more fruit. However, my main focus is to give my body the sports nutrition it needs for exercise. So my focus is to prepare my body before exercise, maintain/hydrate during exercise and replenish my body so my muscles recover faster after exercise so I bounce back for my next class.

K: Apart from Kula, where are your favourite hangouts in the Hawthorn, Camberwell or Boroondara area?

J: I have a lot of favourite places to hangout so its hard to say but my favourite thing to do around this area is going for walks around the fantastic leafy streets.

K: Why did you choose to take part in the 30 Day Challenge this month?

J: I chose to take part in the challenge this month because I love challenges and after my injury, I needed an extra push to turn up on my mat. The last 2 challenges I have done I didn’t finish due to family related interruptions and my injury, so I’m really focused on finishing this one.

K: Tell us about your experience so far.

J: I have done many challenges at Kula and have loved all of them, they give me a extra push to turn up on my mat and the themes are always amazing, but with this challenge I have to be super careful and listen to my body now that I’m recovering from an injury.

K: What do you love most about the Kula Tribe?
J: I love the atmosphere of being a member and love the free entry into the 30-day challenges and unlimited yoga classes.
