Building a connection between like-minded individuals is something we’re passionate about at our yoga studio. “Kula” means community in the ancient and sacred language of Sanskrit. Not only do we provide locals from Hawthorn and Camberwell yoga classes, but we also provide them with a yoga studio where people can connect, share and grow. Our students come from all around the Boroondara area to sweat, play, learn and reach their health and fitness goals. Every day at Kula we come across individuals who have inspired us and continue to help shape our community; we wanted to share their stories with you. Read below to learn more.

Name: Ronja (Ronja is new to Kula, but quickly become a passionate regular ~ she’s already signed up for her first 30 Day Challenge)

Kula: Favourite style of yoga at Kula?

Ronja: Hot – it’s nice to let everything go 🙂 But actually, it’s less about the style, instructors or others around me if I really enjoy a session or not – it’s me. My breath also plays a big role in it. I started to even kite surf using my breath. It feels so much more controlled and more relaxed.

K: Why do you practice yoga?

R: I could write various things but the point is: it simply sets me free 🙂

K: What do you love about Kula Yoga?

R: It is it’s own little wonderland. With plenty of space for everyone to simply be the way he/she is in this moment. It’s funny how we all have different roller coasters in our heads, living in totally different worlds. Some might have had a good day; some maybe a bad one – but when we share these 60 minutes, we’re simply there together. All the instructors are very different and this makes each 60 minutes rich and inspiring. Thank you all a lot!

K: Is yoga your main form of exercise, or do you go to the gym, participate in other sports, fitness or activities?

R: I love outdoor adventures and kitesurfing is another big passion of mine 😉

K: What is the main health goal you are focusing on at the moment?

R: Mhh…being health all around with everything I am is my goal. Being nice to myself, but challenging. More balance and more self consciousness would be cool.

K: Apart from Kula, where are your favourite hangouts in the Hawthorn, Camberwell or Boroondara area?

R: I’m kinda just cruisin’ through it on my bike but Apple&Sage is awesome!

K: Why did you choose to take part in the 30 Day Challenge this month?

R: Because I love to play.

K: Tell us about your experience so far.

R: Just this month I didn’t make it to come every day, so I started the most wonderful thing ever – I started to enjoy yoga on my own in the garden with wind and sun. I think if this is a challenge, it’s not about having a row of smilies on the list, but about having a smile in the face 🙂 I still enjoy the Kula vibe with all the sweaty fantastic individuals and unique instructors, but I don’t depend on it anymore. Now I can create it for myself, wherever I go 🙂
