Building a connection between like-minded individuals is something we’re passionate about at our yoga studio. “Kula” means community in the ancient and sacred language of Sanskrit. Not only do we provide locals from Hawthorn and Camberwell yoga classes, but we also provide them with a yoga studio where people can connect, share and grow. Our students come from all around the Boroondara area to sweat, play, learn and reach their health and fitness goals. Every day at Kula we come across individuals who have inspired us and continue to help shape our community; we wanted to share their stories with you.
Name: Genevieve (a regular Kula yogi, Kula Tribe member and current 30 Day Challenger!)
Kula: Favourite style of yoga at Kula?
Genevieve: When I started practicing at Kula it was all about hot and power. However, in the last few months I have eased into yin and find it particularly restorative. A combination of classes each week is perfect.
K: Why do you practice yoga?
G: For a number of reasons: it keeps me from getting tight muscles and potentially injured in more high intensity activities; it helps me maintain strength and flexibility; and (most importantly) it serves as a moving meditation as I can’t seem to maintain a dedicated meditation practice outside of yoga.
K: What do you love about Kula Yoga?
G: It is my sanctuary! Kula has a beautiful energy which no doubt stems from the amazing instructors. It is a place of non-judgement and community which is increasingly hard to come by.
K: Is yoga your main form of exercise, or do you go to the gym, participate in other sports, fitness or activities?
G: I am currently enjoying F45 classes a few times a week and like to walk when time permits.
K: What is the main health goal you are focusing on at the moment?
G: As cliche as it sounds, my goal is overall wellbeing – a healthy mind and body.
K: Apart from Kula, where are your favourite hangouts in the Hawthorn, Camberwell or Boroondara area?
G: For a quick and fun dinner – Fonda. For family breakfasts – Crabapple Kitchen. For post-yoga coffee – Lights in the Attic.
K: What do you love most about the Kula Tribe?
G: It makes me feel like I belong. It also provides great value and an incentive to come at least 2-3 times per week.
