You see them weekly in studio. They guide you through your practice & continually inspire you on the mat. But how well do you really KNOW your Kula teachers 🙂 Stephanie Jackowski is our resident singer and sound goddess! Her classes are nurturing and soothing for the soul. Here’s a sneak peek at Steph off the mat…

I started practicing yoga because…

I wanted to get fit, and whilst I did, I also saw how much yoga was helping my overall health and mental wellbeing.

My favourite yoga pose is…

Vrksasana, or Tree Pose. I love both the grounding and the balancing aspect of this pose. I focus so hard on balancing in this pose that everything else melts away.

When I’m not on the mat, I’m…

Walking my dog by the beach, going to a movie, or reading a book.

What really lights me up is…

Travel. I love exploring new places and meeting new people who live life in a way that opens my mind to new ideas.

One thing the Kula community doesn’t know about me is…

I love chocolate, like REALLY love chocolate. When I was backpacking through Europe, I stopped in Brussels four times to stock up on pralines from your favourite shop.

At the moment I’m reading..

‘The Brain That Changes Itself’ by Norman Doidge. I find the brain and the advances being made in neuroplasticity endlessly fascinating.

My fav local hangout other than Kula is….

if I’m not spending time down by the beach, I love to catch a movie at the Classic Cinema in Elsternwick (their vegan popcorn in the best!)

My favourite quote is…

from the Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius ‘When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.’

A little more about Steph…
Steph has practiced yoga for over fifteen years and can personally attest to the profound effects that yoga has on both the mind and body. She believes yoga has the ability to uplift and revitalise us, allowing us to develop a deeper connection with ourselves and surroundings. Stephanie likes to provide a challenging practice, whilst also cultivating a supportive and encouraging environment in her classes. Most of all, she aims to share her love of yoga with people in a way that resonates for them.
We are so blessed at Kula to be able to share Steph’s love of not only yoga, but of music. From the age of twelve Stephanie trained as a coloratura soprano. She went on to perform in operas such as The Snow Queen, Gianni Schicchi and Don Giovanni with Victorian Opera and The Melbourne Opera Studio. At the same time, Stephanie started to delve deeper into her yoga practice and was able to identify a number of physical similarities between the two. Always feeling a strong draw towards helping others, Stephanie wanted to use yoga and her singing to allow people to relax and destress from their busy lifestyles. She started to explore using her voice for relaxation and a passion for sound meditation was born.
