“Kula” is an ancient sanskrit term that means ‘community of the heart’. It is a group coming together of their own free will; an intentional clan, tribe or family.
Part of our Kula Tribe is connecting with the local community. Each month we engage with a different local business as a way of encouraging our members to get to know their local area. It also allows these local businesses to get to know our members.
This month our we’ve connected with PhonKlai Massage in Hawthorn for to complement your practice and indulge in some “me time”. Here’s a little about their story:

PhonKlai is where ancient eastern treatments combine with western lifestyles. Asian cultures have known about the therapeutic benefits of massage for hundreds of years and the important part it plays in a holistic healthy lifestyle. Good health is all about balance and the hectic lives we lead in today’s western society leave us tired and stressed at the end of the day. The  treatments are aimed at alleviating stress using ancient Thai massage and relaxation techniques to leave you feeling refreshed and re-energized
At PhonKlai we make you feel at home, with relaxed surroundings and fantastic Traditional Thai massage, Relaxation, Remedial & Deep Tissue massages.
As a professional tennis coach for over 20 years, when he got to the stage where he was the head coach of his own club and had a lot more time to pursue other things, Simon pursued life as a massage therapist. Playing professionally he had his fair share of injuries and soreness and had been to chiropractors, physio’s, remedial therapist and massage therapist of all sorts. So having decided to give massage, 10 years later it’s now his main income.

K: What’s your no 1 wellness tip?
Simon: My number 1 wellness tip would be more of a saying. Have a little bit of
“YOU” time, your body and everything you do will benefit from it.
K: What do you love most about the boroondara/Hawthorn community?
S: I love this area because its very family orientated. Phonklai Thai Massage
has only been on Glenferrie rd for 2 years now but I have met so many great
people in the area.
K: Have you ever done yoga before?
S: I have done yoga a couple of times when I was playing Tennis but at the
moment I’m doing the total opposite of my wellness tip and not having any “ME”
time.
Our Kula Tribe members can enjoy a special discount this month, so don’t miss out. There has never been a better time to join the tribe and here’s why…
Why Kula Tribe?
We value community above all else at Kula and are proud of the wonderful community we’ve created, both through our students, teachers and out in the local area. We are also pleased to be able to provide a membership that offers not only the best value, but the opportunity to embrace this community.
If you’re not sure if Kula Tribe is for you, have a chat with one of our wonderful teachers to discuss your options. However, if you’re practicing at the studio 2 or more times a week then Kula Tribe is the most valuable option we have. We’d love to have you onboard this growing community, so head to our online store to learn more.
