Finding a yoga studio (or a gym that offers yoga classes) in the Camberwell or Hawthorn area isn’t hard. But choosing the right style of yoga to fit your health and fitness goals means sorting through all the options. We’re the largest studio in the area, offering seven different types of yoga classes! We’ve created a guide to outline the different yoga classes we offer to help you understand what each class entails.

Who is it for?

We noticed so many expectant and new mums coming into our studio from the Boroondara area that we saw a need for Pre & Postnatal yoga. This class is geared toward pregnant yogis (partners are welcome too!) and mums who have recently given birth. While pregnant and postnatal students can try any other style at Kula, this specific class was made especially to calm the mind and prepare the body for motherhood.

What should I bring?

Bring a mat or hire one from the studio. You may like to bring a towel in case you sweat (though the room is not heated as body temperature is already elevated during pregnancy), and be sure to stay hydrated with a drink bottle. No previous yoga experience is necessary for our Pre & Postnatal yoga classes, but be sure your doctor has cleared you for physical activity.

What to expect?

Throughout the hour-long Pre & Postnatal class you’ll work on breath, connection, strengthening, pelvic floor toning, concentration and balance. Our teachers are all certified, and many of our instructors are pregnant or have bubs of their own. We cater to all levels and fitness goals in the class, whether you’ve turned up to relax and breathe or strengthen and work out.

What are the benefits of the style?

During and after pregnancy are wonderful times to get into yoga as breath and meditation can help during birth and beyond. Keeping your fitness levels up can help ease pregnancy pain and assist with childbirth.

More resources?

As we mentioned, pregnant yogis are welcome to join our other styles at Kula however they should be aware of certain modifications to stay safe in their bodies. Read our blog post about general yoga advice for prenatal students, and always remember to listen to your body.
