Building a connection between like-minded individuals is something we’re passionate about at our yoga studio. “Kula” means community in the ancient and sacred language of Sanskrit. Not only do we provide locals from Hawthorn and Camberwell yoga classes, but we also provide them with a yoga studio where people can connect, share and grow. Our students come from all around the Boroondara area to sweat, play, learn and reach their health and fitness goals. Every day at Kula we come across individuals who have inspired us and continue to help shape our community; we wanted to share their stories with you.

Name: Gabby (Gabby is another of our long term members and now a committed Kula Triber!)

Kula: Favourite style of yoga at Kula?

Gabby: Power Flow

K: Why do you practice yoga?

G: I had a major back injury and I needed to build up my strength and my core. Prior to yoga I had been a runner all my life and I was all about cardio. People had told me about yoga and I just could not be convinced it was a good use of an hour. Hasn’t that changed!! I will never run again…I actually don’t even have the desire to. Yoga now gives me so much more than just being a form of exercise. I’m definitely far more balanced as a result and my body thanks me for every class I do.

K: What do you love about Kula Yoga?

G: The spacious studio, the variety and quality of the teachers and the really welcoming environment.

K: Is yoga your main form of exercise, or do you go to the gym, participate in other sports, fitness or activities?

G: I do Pilates and I walk however yoga is my fave of the three.

K: What is the main health goal you are focusing on at the moment?

G: Mindfulness and learning to switch off… and ensuring that I have at least one glass of wine each day J

K: Apart from Kula, where are your favourite hangouts in the Hawthorn, Camberwell or Boroondara area?

G: I spend a lot of time at work. I run an executive recruitment business – People Equity in Hawthorn. I do have a lot of breakfast meetings and coffees in cafes close by…Lights in the Attic and at Porgie and Mr Jones are some of the ones I go to most. I am also forever in search of Boroondara’s best bircher muesli. BAWA in Burwood Road in Hawthorn is currently winning my vote!

K: What do you love most about the Kula Tribe?
G: The fact that it is so reasonably priced and you can practice for unlimited sessions!
