Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the mental load.
You know what I mean—the invisible weight we carry that no one else really sees, but we definitely feel.
It’s the remembering, the planning, the constant scanning of what needs to happen, who needs what, when, and how.
Right now, I’m in the thick of organising our weekend retreat to Hepburn Springs.
-
Have I finalised the catering?
-
Double-checked everyone’s dietary needs?
-
What’s the weather doing?
-
What do I need to pack for myself and the group?
All of that is running quietly in the background… on top of running two studios, parenting two kids, replying to messages, staying on top of the WhatsApp groups, and keeping food in the fridge and clean clothes in the wardrobes.
It’s a lot.
And the trickiest part? So much of the mental load is invisible.
No one else sees the moving parts. But they’re always ticking away.
Whether it’s your job, your team, your family—or all of the above—there’s a constant hum of responsibility.
The tabs are always open.
The list is never-ending.
And even when we stop… we rarely switch off.
Sometimes I catch myself lying awake at night, going through logistics in my head—even when my body is completely exhausted.
And that’s usually my cue to take my own advice.
I stop. I breathe. I put on a guided meditation and let myself be held by something other than me for a while.
Because my yoga practice supports me—on the mat and off.
When I roll out my mat and move through asana, I can feel that background noise quieten.
Because yoga doesn’t ask us to solve or plan or perform.
It invites us to:
-
Be.
-
Land.
-
Exhale.
-
Remember that we exist beyond the roles and responsibilities.
So if your mind feels full and heavy—you’re not alone.
Come in.
Let someone else hold the space for once.
You don’t have to do it all.
And you definitely don’t have to do it alone.
I’ll be on the mat too.
Let’s press the reset button together.
With love,
Kacey x
P.S. Once the Hepburn retreat is wrapped, I’ll be turning my focus to Bali.
Only 2 rooms left if you’re ready to swap the mental load for sunshine, savasana, and a week of being taken care of. Just reply to this email if you’d love to join us from July 27 to August 2, 2025.
