“Kula” is an ancient sanskrit term that means ‘community of the heart’. It is a group coming together of their own free will; an intentional clan, tribe or family.
Part of our Kula Tribe is connecting with the local community. Each month we engage with a different local business as a way of encouraging our members to get to know their local area. It also allows these local businesses to get to know our members.
Having taken over the reins of Porgie + Mr Jones in December 2016, brothers Thomas and Luke are excited and passionate about this iconic Hawthorn café which has been in operation for the past nine years.
The boys pride themselves on their sustainable operations and authentic connections with their staff and their customers, believing in real hospitality, family values, a genuine love of great food, fantastic coffee and real customer service.
Entering the wooden doors of Porgie + Mr Jones, visitors are immediately drawn into the warm and relaxed atmosphere, with distressed walls, bare bulbs and a quaint courtyard, perfect for the Sunday morning brunch in the sunshine or intimate private dinner.
Porgie & Mr Jones is open 7 days for breakfast and lunch, as well as Friday and Saturday nights for dinner. Private event enquiries are always welcome. With a new all day menu launched in September that celebrates fresh, sustainable produce and holistic nutrition, there are a wide range of options available for vegetarians, as well as those with special dietary requirements, allergies, and a specialised kids’ menu.
All day menu favourites include the buttermilk pancakes with whipped cream, blackberry sauce and candied oat crumbs; the PMJ smashed avocado with pistachio butter, feta and poached eggs; and the smoked salmon and potato rosti with cress leaves, avocado and horseradish crème fraiche.
For the month of October, the boys are extending a wonderful offer for all our Kula Tribe members (check your emails Kula Tribers). Come down to Porgie + Mr Jones, located at 291 Auburn Road in Hawthorn, and say hi to Thomas, Luke and their friendly staff.
Our Kula Tribe members can enjoy a special discount this month, so don’t miss out. There has never been a better time to join the tribe and here’s why…
Why Kula Tribe?
We value community above all else at Kula and are proud of the wonderful community we’ve created, both through our students, teachers and out in the local area. We are also pleased to be able to provide a membership that offers not only the best value, but the opportunity to embrace this community.
If you’re not sure if Kula Tribe is for you, have a chat with one of our wonderful teachers to discuss your options. However, if you’re practicing at the studio 2 or more times a week then Kula Tribe is the most valuable option we have. We’d love to have you onboard this growing community, so head to our online store to learn more.
We look forward to seeing you on your mat and out in the greater community!
